Week 12

This week is the last week of the course, below is a reflection of how I think I did in the course: Over these few months of this course, I was able to learn from scratch a new European language- German. I chose to learn German because I was fascinated by its history and also because I have family members living in Germany, so I felt intrigued by the language. German to me right now is still quite unfamiliar as throughout these weeks, I have only learnt various simple vocabulary and simple grammar. In the future, I hope to further my learning by progressing and being able to make sentences from the vocabulary I learnt. Looking back at the targets I set myself in week 1, I found that I have been able to achieve most of them, such as being able to introduce myself, identifying animals, order food, understand basic phrases and describe my family members. However, I did not achieve all of my targets as I still cannot describe my daily routine, pronounce the German alphabet or hold ...

This week I finished making all the Quizlets of all the vocabulary I learnt and revised the numbers and time topics. I found this extremely helpful as it refreshed my knowledge on the basic vocabulary of my language. Link to my German Quizlet Folder

Week 10

Week 10 This week I made Quizlets for most of the vocabulary I learnt throughout this course. This is because I realised that I have actually forgotten most of the things I learnt at the start. Therefore, I used this time to create Quizlets for the first few weeks of vocabulary and I completed the learn task. I decided to do this because I wanted to have a resource where I can continue to learn and revise German after this course ends.

Merry Christmas! = Frohe Weihnacht Happy New Year! = Neujahrsglückwünsche Christmas song: Jingle Bells in German-  https://youtu.be/jnErHZNhn6g Ein kleiner weißer Schneemann der steht vor meiner Tür, ein kleiner weißer Schneemann der stand gestern noch nicht hier, und neben dran der Schlitten, der lädt uns beide ein, zur aller ersten Schlittenfahrt ins Märchenland hinein. A little white snowman that stands before my door, a little white snowman that wasn't here yesterday, and next to him the sleigh that invites both of us for the very first ride into a fairytale land. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, klingt es weit und breit. Schön ist eine Schlittenfahrt im Winter wenn es schneit. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, klingt es weit und breit. Mach' mit mir 'ne Schneeballschlacht, der Winter steht bereit! Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, it rings out far and wide. A sleigh ride is nice in winter when it snows. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, it rings out far and wide. Let's have a s...

Objectives: - Review vocab from week 6 - Learn how to tell the time I learnt how to tell the time by using this Quizlet  and making notes: For my offline activity, we randomly said a time then we wrote it in our language. I think this was helpful to apply what I learnt to put it in an actual sentence.

Week 6

Objectives: - Learn family related words- members of your family - Learn how to describe your family- personality traits I reviewed the food topic by doing two lessons of Duolingo. Then I learnt how to call family members and how to describe people on Quizlet. I used these two Quizlets: https://quizlet.com/233265557/german-family-flash-cards/ https://quizlet.com/315776495/german-personality-flash-cards/ I took notes from the Quizlet flashcards: For my offline activity, I played Bingo. We generated random numbers and whenever I had one of the numbers, I had to say my number in German. I found it really fun and effective for revising my numbers because I got to practice my speaking as well.
